We have decided to start charging a small fee for private hunts in order to pay for the costs of maintaining our platform. All other services offered by Our Treasure Hunt remain free.
Cost details
Specifically, it is free for any user to play any hunt in the app.
It is free to create and publish public hunts.
It is free to create private hunts and test them in the app under your account.
When you want to share the private hunt with others, there is an $8 charge to generate an access code and a quick link, either of which you can share with your friends and family so they can play your private hunt.
Where does the money go?
The small amount of revenue will cover some of the basic costs to keep the system running, such as paying for this website, for data and code hosting, and fees to Apple.

How to avoid paying
If you want to do a hunt for just family or friends, but cannot pay the $8, there is an easy hack and that is to create it as a public hunt. “Publish” it just before your friends are ready to play, and “unpublish” it afterward. It’s highly unlikely anyone near your location will randomly find and want to play your hunt during the small time period.
That said, please pay the $8 if you can, and if you go the workaround route of creating a public hunt just for your group, please unpublish the hunt when you’re done.
